Responsibilities

Are you passionate in writing computer codes for complex and interesting problems? Do you have experience in using Python for a project? Are you comfortable with complex mathematical, statistical, or psychometrical concepts – for example, smoothing? If so, you might be the one who will make a great contribution on an interesting project. ACT is looking for a research intern who will write Python codes for psychometric procedures (particularly equating and smoothing).The position will last until the end of August, 2019.

Typical work-related activities include:

  • Under the direction of senior staff, write computer codes for psychometric procedures

  • Learn the psychometric procedures if not in a psychometric major

  • Report progress and incorporate feedbacks from senior staff

  • Validate the results from new codes using some existing procedures

  • Write user manuals for the new codes

  • Demonstrate the usage of the finished products

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Doctoral candidate in educational measurement, educational psychology, quantitative psychology, statistics, engineering, mathematics, or related fields.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Solid training in psychometrics, mathematics, or statistics (psychometrics is preferred)

  • Strong grasp of Python including commonly used packages

  • Experience in using Python for a project (course project is acceptable)

  • Experience in C++ is not required but desired

  • Ability to communicate effectively

  • Ability to work with a group as well as individually
